We’re Making a Bigger Footprint in the Security Industry with Hikvision

September 24

If the idea of Pioneer Music Company (PMC) now carrying Hikvision’s surveillance systems and products doesn’t excite you, it should. It’s our job to make your jobs easier, which means carrying the brands your customers want and being your one-stop for all the surveillance products you need for a project.

Why Hikvision in a nutshell

  • It’s a reliable, best performing surveillance system available at an affordable price
  • The cameras operate on either wired or wireless network for super flexibility on your high-end residential and small to mid-sized business projects.
  • One out every four cameras out there carry the Hikvision name brand, making it the largest producer of surveillance products in the world.

The cherry on top? These renowned systems come with our knowledgeable sales staff, same-day pick up or delivery in certain markets, one-day shipping everywhere in our Midwest territory, and the good ol’ customer service we’ve hung our hat on since 1869.

Wasn’t Hikvision removed from the GSA eligible products list?
This stems from something that happened in December of 2016, so it’s old news.

Two unauthorized distributors erroneously listed Hikvision product SKUs on a General Services Administration Schedule Advantage website.

So what?

Well, it implied that Hikvision could have been involved in unethical conduct. However, this wasn’t the case. The company never authorized the unaffiliated resellers to put the products on the GSA site, nor did it claim the products are made in the U.S.A.

In fact, Hikvision products are clearly marked “Made in China.”

Is there any risk of *ahem* Hikvision surveillance systems being hacked?
We’ve heard and are well aware of talk on the street about Hikvision, so we did our own investigative reporting and quizzed industry experts.

Here are five things we learned and links to the proof.

  1. Hikvision was the first in the industry to allow government agencies to view source code for vulnerabilities.
  2. A Security Sales & Integration article named Hikvision the “industry’s most proactive [manufacturers] in this realm.”
  3. The director of cybersecurity at Hikvision was appointed to the Security Industry Association Cybersecurity Advisory Board.
  4. Hikvision has FIPS-140-2 certification, which was created to establish a standard on how sensitive and classified information would be implemented in federal and Department of Defense infrastructures.
  5. Other companies with certificates like this one that Hikvision has are Apple, Microsoft, Cisco, and Google, which puts them in pretty respectable company.

There’s the proof of performance, now let’s get technical
Hikvision’s specialty cameras range from thermal to license plate readers and can read cars’ plates at 70mph in multiple lanes of traffic. How about 360-degree field of view to full color night vision? Hikvision’s got it and it’s called the PanoVu Series.

We’re most excited about TurboHD technology and the 5mp and 8mp options available for coax based projects. This allows integrators to sell into an existing system and integrate a combination of IP and TVI solutions, while utilizing existing cable and reducing end-user expenses.
