Sooooo, Sonos, What’s New with You?

August 12

Much. Let’s start off with the finer points you need to know.

Are the new versions worth a look?

Definitely. Sonos Five and Sub now come with software that makes them compatible with future Sonos eco-systems.

Not only does this “future-proofing” make a Sonos project easier to sell, but also is an opportunity to upgrade past customers to a more compatible product with new technical (the Five and Sub) and cosmetic (Arc) updates.

What’s happening with older Sonos products?

Sub G3 and Five are direct replacements for the Sub G1 and Play:5. Playbar and Playbase are discontinued.

Arc is easier on everyone and a money maker.

The new Sonos Arc has an HDMI connection and comes with a fiber optic adapter. So, it is easier to connect and supports more surround formats via E-Arc. The new ARC offers some marked improvements in sound quality, and will offer better performance as a stand-alone soundbar, making it an easier sale for customers who want quality, but not an entire setup spiel with multiple speakers, sub woofers, yadda yadda.

This new version has a higher retail price, resulting in more profit for you.

Now, on to the actual products. Here’s the newest Sonos lineup.

Sonos Five

Say so long Play:5 and hello to Sonos Five, a studio quality, high-fidelity speaker for superior sound. Perfect for listening to Jackson 5 vinyls.

Customers never can say goodbye to older models? The Five can change their minds. It belts out vividly clear, room-filling sound for music streaming, turntables, CD players, projectors and more via a 3.5mm jack. Control is easier than your ABCs via the app and Apple AirPlay 2. It’s enhanced with Trueplay™ so anyone can fine-tune and customize the sound to the room’s acoustics.

Positioned horizontally, Five auto separates left and right channels for stereo sound. Position two Fives vertically for detailed stereo separation and a wider soundstage.

The love you save may be for this speaker:

  • Future ready computing hardware
  • Increased memory & processing power
  • An updated radio: Sonos Radio
  • New color-matched grille
  • Available in white and black

Sonos Sub

The buzz about the Gen 3 Sonos Sub is that there is no buzz, just bold bass. Two force-canceling drivers at Sub’s center eliminate vibration and rattle for powerful bass without distortion.

What else is new?

  • Future ready computing hardware
  • Increased memory and processing power
  • An updated radio: Sonos Radio

Satisfy design and sound “snobs” Sub’s award-winning and versatile design, featuring a sculptural shape and high-gloss finish. Stand Sub upright or lay it on its side.

Cosmetic design update includes:

  • A flat power cord
  • Round join button
  • Rubber foot and other light color updates

Sonos Arc

Now, Arc is the premium smart soundbar for TV, movies, music, gaming, and more. Your high-end customers are clamoring for it to bring all their entertainment to life with brilliantly realistic 3Dsound, featuring Dolby Atmos, Dolby Digital 5.1 and AirPlay2. It’s enhanced with Trueplay™ so anyone can fine-tune like a Motown pro and customize the sound to the room’s acoustics.

It’s controlled via remote, the app, voice, and Apple AirPlay 2.

Under Arc are 8 supercharged elliptical woofers and 3 precisely angled silk-dome tweeters. Yet, it’s slim and streamlined (3.4 x 45 x 4.5 inches) for larger and thinner TVs. A wall mount allows for cables to be routed directly behind Arc and through the wall.
